Sculpture

Predominately I work with clay, creating sculptural installations for outdoor public exhibition. My sculptures are inspired from nature and my interactions with the environment. They often reflect native flora and fauna represented in organic shapes and curvaceous figurative forms.
Working with Raku clays gives me opportunities to form large scale works and incorporate pit-firing techniques due to the clays porosity and structure.
Pit-firing techniques are used which add spontaneous flashings of colour, creating markings from seaweed, salt , local flora and sawdust from various local woods these are added to the pit firing process.
I love the elements of clay and the ephemeral qualities that it possess, lending to works which can melt back into the earth and transform in time gathering history in the markings on its surface from a place in time.
